The World Masters Athletics Championships 2009 Lahti, Finland 28 July to 8 August 2009 |

Wow, what a Championships! One person, even with two cameras, can’t go everywhere, but I hope you enjoy these galleries. As usual, most are of the Great Britain athletes, but there’s much else, as you can see. I had a great time in Lahti. I made it to both of my sprint finals, missed out on a bronze medal in the 200m by just two hundredths of a second, and ran some of my fastest times ever! Our superb 4x100m relay team won gold, so I made it to the top of the podium in the end. The story’s in my Lahti blog. Tom

First day of decathlon and heptathlon, in the main stadium. Age groups were spread around several venues, which made it impossible to see everyone in action. |

Wednesday 29 July 2009 More decathlon and heptathlon, this time including action from both the main stadium and Radiomaki arena, too. Also some track walks from there.

Thursday 30 July 2009 Time for me to start racing too, though I am amazed how much else I photographed on this day, including the grand old men in the M85 and M90 long jump.

Saturday 1 August 2009 Mainly sprint finals day! My own final was the best 100m I’ve ever run. Fifth in a World final. Fine by me!

Sunday 2 August 2009 The 200m began for me on the track. The day ended with great 800m finals at Radiomaki stadium.

Monday 3 August 2009 I have no photos from this day. I came second in my 200m semi-final, and fourth in the 200m final, just 2/100ths from a medal. The cameras stayed in the hotel!

Tuesday 4 August 2009 One of the busiest days of the Championships, with 400m and 1500m action, and much else too.

Wednesday 5 August 2009 A rest day. In the evening, there were two special 100m graded races for World age group champions. Presentations after, by Lasse Viren and Javier Sotomayor, no less! |
